Monoethanolamine (MEA, ETA)

Monoethanolamine (MEA or ETA) is a colorless, viscous liquid, organic chemical compound also known as Ethanolamine. Its primary use is for feedstock in the production of detergents, emulsifiers, polishes, pharmaceuticals, corrosion inhibitors, and chemical intermediates.

Description

Ethanolamine is a viscous, hygroscopic amino alcohol with an unpleasant ammonia-like odor. Its chemical formula is C2H7NO and its CAS # is 141-43-5. It is a component of lecithin and is widely distributed in biological tissue. It is a solid below 51°F and is used as a surfactant, fluorimetric reagent, and to remove CO2 and H2S from natural gas and other gases. MEA is produced by reacting ethylene oxide with aqueous ammonia.

Consumer uses include the manufacturing of electrical and electronic products, metal and paper products, as well as personal care products.

Shipping

Monoethanolamine is a liquid packed in bulk (rail, tanktruck, Isotank), totes (IBC tanks), and drums. Special packaging is available on request.
