Brenntag and Univar Hint at Merger Plans

In November of 2022, chemical industry giant Brenntag said it planned to double its annual spending on mergers and acquisitions, specifically noting the goal of consolidating the industry and improving technical capabilities. Now, Brenntag is reportedly in talks with Univar, the world’s third-largest chemical distributor, regarding a merger. This deal would combine two of the largest chemical distribution firms. In statements, both firms have noted nothing substantial has yielded “concrete results or agreements.” With Brenntag adding, “It is currently not foreseeable whether there will be any kind of transaction.” An article published by C&EN reports further on the potential union between the two companies.
