Description
Dicyandiamide CAS Number 461-58-5
Commonly known as dicyandiamide, the white crystalline compound is the dimer for cyanamide or for cyanoguanidine.
Dicyandiamide crystals melt at 210° C, and are soluble in water and alcohol. Other uses for the compound are in the manufacture of fertilizers, explosives, oil well drilling muds, pharmaceuticals, and dyestuffs.
Dicyandiamide (DICY or DCD), also known as Cyanoguanidine, is a non-hazardous, non-volatile, white crystalline powder with the molecular formula of C2H4N4 and CAS number 461-58-5.
Dicyandiamide Uses:

Dicyandiamide in Fertilizers
Dicyandiamide from The Chemical Company is used in fertilizer formulations as a slow/continuous release nitrogen source. There are two major ways in which nitrogen is lost from soil – denitrification and leeching. Denitrification is loss of nitrogen to the atmosphere. Leeching is when nitrogen is washed from soil through rain or irrigation. Dicy has been shown to prevent nitrogen loss through both leeching and de-nitrification in soil. This helps reduce the negative effects of greenhouse gas emission such as nitrous oxide and nitrate leaching into waterways.
The 2010 19th World Congress of Soil Sciences released a study illustrating the positive effects of Dicyandiamide in agricultural industries and the denitrification process across various types of soils and variable concentrations such as urea and bovine urine. Dicyandiamide (DCD) reduces nitrate losses from Irish soils
