Dimer acids, also known as dimerized fatty acids, are dicarboxylic acids that are made by dimerizing unsaturated fatty acids obtained from tall oil, oleic acid, canola, or cottonseed oil, generally on clay catalysts. Dimer acids are also used in the manufacture of alkyd resins, adhesives, surfactants, as fuel oil additives, and lubricant.
